Spare Parts

I
would melt a thousand thousand pennies
to this pavement
to melt upon your lips

Burn
the flecks of sun on the river
incandescent
to the backs of my shoulders
to remind myself of the feel of your fingertips

you told me
you said
Wait Here
and i waited through every season
the way a spare light bulb does
in a cellar

i’ve never understood
how to get bored of people
i’ve never even tried

i’m the sweetheart that spreads
her arms her thighs her smile
at the littlest kindness
and even at an insult

so who’s to say which one you were

i would give
a thousand thousand somethings
to know

.
