Heavenly Tale

Even the signpost in the clouds has gone and disappeared somewhere
The stars burn out, unwavering  …  Fly off

Incomplete as I am
I wonder where I might go
In order to seek out the fragment I’ve lost —
To discover where you are

The curtain doesn’t raise on the theatre in sepia—not yet
A clown scatters flowers
Now—the bells toll

I wonder, is the push-pull poetry of the stars getting through to you? ¹
The story that continues on from Adam and Eve’s —
Yeah, let’s get it started

.

NOTES / INTERPRETATION:

oo1. I took liberties with this line! If I were to be more literal with the translation, “circling” or “go-around” would have been more appropriate. However, as soon as “push-pull” wandered into my head, the alliteration was irresistible. And here we are.

oo2. For how short these lyrics are, they’re packed with imagery. For instance, the theatre in sepia is particularly mysterious… the clown is a recurring character in ALICE NINE. lyrics though, interestingly enough. The missing piece and Adam and Eve reference don’t require any real explanation, I think; as the crux of the song, I think the meaning is pretty clear! If you’ve never heard the song itself, it’s quite long, and the musical interludes do the bulk of the talking, so to speak. I think “epic” is the right word for it. The spare lyrics along with the epic music creates an awesome balance. A favourite of mine, for certain!
