EUREKA

In a town where everything has been completely forgotten
Sinks a scarlet sun

The dried up voice of my heart hurts
The reason for which I do not know

Even voices are lost; there is nothing to touch
A dream inside a miniature garden

The curtain lifted, the muzzle of a gun pointed toward us
Take up the helm inside your heart

In a world of majority decisions, nothing is decided
Laugh, before you’re painted over

As if they’d been pierced by a needle
I’m just grieving, putting a lid on my true intentions

Wavelets awaken in the sea,
Make the flapping of butterflies’ wings ring out

Just a moment, before it wilts
Go and ring it, Ring a Bell

The curtain lifts; a party revolves around an absent audience
A bouquet of flowers, even just for empty seats

But the truth is laughable
And before long everyone will notice

Leap, before you get scared

Run and get there in the end
Maybe I can restore myself
I reach for your fingertips

The curtain lifted, the muzzle of a gun pointed toward us
Take up the helm inside your heart

In a world of majority decisions, nothing is decided
Laugh, before you’re painted over

Even if there is no perfect future
We should be able to make something like it

Thoughts. The imagery of a curtain lifting immediately calls to mind live performances, and given that this song and its lyrics were released during a period of time when society was only just beginning to recover from strict quarantine measures put in place for covid-19, I can’t help but link the two together. Of the effort that the band put into touring and staying together when it was so much more difficult to do anything in terms of live performances — and when so many fans who wanted to physically attend their live performances could not, for all sorts of reasons. Despite that underlying sense to the lyrics, they are still so invigorating, encouraging the speaker themselves and the listener both to keep moving forward, to keep vying for a better future, regardless of the fact that it may be imperfect.

(Of course it will be imperfect… that’s life!)

The music is lovely with an incredibly energizing, satisfying rhythm.

I particularly love the juxtaposition of the imagery of wavelets on the sea and the flapping of butterflies’ wings as well as the opening image of a sun sinking in a forgotten town, followed by the image of a miniature garden. And what of the thought that nothing is decided in a world of majority decisions — a majority decision does not mean an equitable one.
