Though the original of this illustration was done in pencil several years prior, I dusted it off and inked it in 2018, changing it slightly according to what I had been feeling at the time. Truth be told, I’m not entirely certain how to explain its symbolism, as I don’t remember the frame of mind I was in (or even the year) when I originally created it.
The only thing I can say for certain is that the piece gets its name from the main character of a novel I eventually abandoned, so it may have been intended as a stylized illustration of her. It is just as likely that it was drawn when I was feeling intense self-hatred about my own appearance.
Whatever the case, the result is pretty unsettling to look at.
